Shreyas Iyer made a similar index finger celebration gesture after running out Ben Stokes in England’s second innings in the Visakhapatnam Test as Stokes had done after taking Iyer’s catch in India’s second innings.
India sealed the Visakhapatnam Test with 106 runs with Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin taking a three wicket haul each in England’s second innings. Shreyas Iyer played his part in the field with a stunning direct hit run out of England captain Ben Stokes. Stokes was getting his eye in – as he usually does – and had played 29 balls for 11 runs and could have been dangerous as England eyed the target of 399.
However, his stay in the middle was cut short by a superb direct hit from Shreyas Iyer. Ben Foakes tapped a ball on the legside from R Ashwin and both Foakes and Stokes set off for a single. Foakes hesitated for a bit after taking a couple of steps, while Stokes was casual and not alert in his running.
Iyer came in from mid-wicket, swooped the ball up swiftly, and hammered a direct hit at the striker’s end. Stokes was found to be a couple of inches short at the striker’s crease when the bails came off. This decision of out sparked celebrations in the Indian camp and Shreyas Iyer made the finger celebration/gesture with his index finger that Stokes had done yesterday after taking a superb catch of Iyer.

India completed a 106-run win in Vizag and the teams head to Rajkot with the series levelled at 1-1. England started the day at the score of 67/1, chasing 399, but lost five wickets in the first session which put the game in India’s bag. If any hope for a miracle was left for the visitors, it ended with captain Stokes’ run-out.
Jasprit Burmah, for his 9 wickets in the game, was adjudged the Man of the Match.
