Jasprit Bumrah might just be the sweetest of all fast bowlers who have knocked over the stumps. For someone who is arguably the best in the world at his art, Bumrah, unlike the other fast bowlers, rarely shows aggression in his celebration, even when dismissing the main man, the captain, of the opposition team.
Instead, he often gives a smiling sendoff to the dismissed batsman, a tacit suggestion that ‘I had planned it all the way through and I knew how I’d get you out’. Even if you are Ben freakin Stokes.
On Day 1 of the India vs England Test series, in the first Test in Hyderabad, Jasprit Bumrah bagged the big fish, Ben Stokes, the England captain who was assaulting the veteran Indian spin duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, and hurting the hosts while batting with the tail.
Called upon to halt this chariot of Stokes, who had smashed 6 fours and 3 sixes, Jasprit Bumrah delivered, as he was expected to.
Stokes, batting on 70, skipped down the pitch, but Bumrah just dragged his length back a little. The batter played a nothing shot and had left his stumps exposed. The ball pitched in line and straightened, eventually hitting the top of the middle stumps.
Jasprit Bumrah had his arms spread like a free bird with a massive grin on his face and smiled at Ben Stokes, who was unimpressed with being bowled so ruthlessly by the spearhead India pacer but conceded defeat at the genius of Bumrah.

Meanwhile, Stokes’ 70 helped England post what seems a little under-par score of 246. It was his late partnerships with Wood and Hartley that allowed England to go from 155/7 to 246.
