A young fan rushed into the ground to touch the feet of India captain Rohit Sharma on Day 1 of the ongoing 1st Test against England at Hyderabad. Funnily, though, that fan was wearing Virat Kohli’s number 18 jersey.
Nonetheless, this act by the fan showed his devotion and passion toward Rohit Sharma. However, commentator Sunil Gavaskar rightly called out the security officials’ carelessness for not stopping such trespassers and watching the game instead.
Fans on social media have glorified and celebrated such acts of trespassing young men to touch the feet and hug their favorite cricketers; recently, during India vs Afghanistan T20I in Indore, a Virat Kohli fan jumped over the fence and touched the feet of Kohli and hugged him. He was held by the police, but after being released, he was given a hero’s welcome by his friends and had him cut a cake.
At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, on Day 1 of the Test match, a fan sprinted across the ground and straightaway reached Rohit Sharma on the pitch when the India captain was getting ready to take his guard at the start of India’s innings. In a few seconds, a security person came and took away this fan. The video of this incident has gone viral on social media.
