‘R Ashwin Is One Of The Toughest Bowlers I’ve Ever Faced’ – AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers Hailed R Ashwin: R Ashwin achieved a remarkable milestone of 500 Test wickets during the third Test match between India and England at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. Despite not being the top performer with the ball in the series, Ashwin’s achievement marked a memorable moment in the match, which India won by a massive 434-run margin. His career tally now stands at 501 Test wickets.

Ashwin is only the second Indian and the ninth overall to achieve 500 Test wickets, a remarkable feat considering he has played fewer than 100 Tests. Despite his outstanding record, former South African captain feels Ashwin hasn’t always received the credit he deserves. Ashwin’s skill as a red-ball bowler is widely recognized, having taken wickets in various conditions.

'R Ashwin Is One Of The Toughest Bowlers I've Ever Faced' - AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers praised Ravichandran Ashwin as one of the toughest bowlers he’s ever faced, a significant compliment from a cricketing great. Zak Crawley was Ashwin’s 500th Test victim, and he’s been dismissed by Ashwin three times in the ongoing series. Among Indian bowlers, only Anil Kumble has more Test wickets than Ashwin, with Kumble having taken 619 wickets in 132 Tests.

AB de Villiers discussed Ravichandran Ashwin’s achievement of reaching 500 Test wickets on his YouTube channel. He congratulated Ashwin and highlighted the significant role he has played for the Indian team. He said:

“Ashwin has been a stalwart but not always getting enough credit for what he is & the role he Plays in the Indian Team. He is one of the toughest bowlers I have ever played against”.

Ashwin is set to participate in the fourth Test match between India and England at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi. India currently leads the series 2-1, having clinched victories in the previous two Tests held in Vizag and Rajkot, after losing the opening match in Hyderabad by 28 runs.
