“If Players Like Hardik..” – Irfan Pathan Reacts To BCCI Terminating Contracts Of Shreyas And Ishan

Irfan Pathan Reacts To BCCI – Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not included in the central contracts announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the 2023-24 season. Their absence surprised many because they have been regular members of the national team in various formats. However, they faced criticism for not playing in Ranji Trophy matches.

Ishan Kishan hasn’t played for the national team since he opted out of the Test series against South Africa citing mental fatigue. Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, was part of the squad for the first two Tests against England but was dropped for the remaining matches.

Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently discussed the BCCI’s choice to end the contracts of notable players such as Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. The decision came because the pair didn’t play in the Ranji Trophy matches despite not having national team commitments.

Irfan Pathan noticed the news and wished Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer well, hoping they would bounce back stronger. He also suggested that the BCCI should come up with plans to support players like Hardik Pandya, who focus solely on white-ball cricket, to ensure fairness for all cricketers. Irfan Pathan took to his X and wrote:

“They are talented cricketers, both Shreyas and Ishan. Hoping they bounce back and come back stronger. If players like Hardik don’t want to play red ball cricket, should he and others like him participate in white-ball domestic cricket when they aren’t on national duty? If this doesn’t apply to all, then Indian cricket won’t achieve the desired results!”
