"We Need To Give Him Some More Time..." - Rohit Sharma Backs Rajat Patidar Ahead Of 5th Test

Rajat Patidar entered the Test series against England with high hopes because of his strong performances in domestic cricket. However, he hasn’t lived up to expectations, managing just 63 runs in three Test matches. As a result, his spot in the XI for the fifth and final Test is in jeopardy. It will be interesting to see which players India opts for in Dharamsala.

Patidar’s struggles during his debut series have led to doubts about his position in the team, even though captain Rohit Sharma has shown faith in his abilities. Given the uncertainty surrounding KL Rahul’s fitness, Patidar may receive another chance to demonstrate his worth. However, Devdutt Padikkal could also be considered as a potential alternative.

India’s bowling lineup is poised to receive a significant boost with the comeback of Jasprit Bumrah, who is set to lead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj as the secondary pacer. In the spin department, the trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav is anticipated to play pivotal roles. However, adjustments to the lineup may be necessary depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

Speaking ahead of the 5th Test match, Rohit said: “Rajat Patidar has very good abilities. I like him. I see him as a talented player. We need to give him some more time,”

Rohit Sharma highlighted that the Indian team’s remarkable capability to recover from challenging situations has been the standout feature of their performance throughout the series. He said:

“It has been a series of comebacks for us. Whenever we were put under pressure we were able to put the pressure back on the opposition. That was pleasing for me,”

He added: “Looks like a typical Indian pitch. There will be some movement when the temperature drops but looks like a good pitch,”
