The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis explained that his and Virat Kohli’s thinking about cricket is similar and very alike, and that helped them click instantly with each other when the South African arrived at the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022.
Faf du Plessis was bought by RCB in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and was made their captain straightaway after Kohli stepped down after the IPL 2021 season.
Faf led RCB to the playoffs in IPL 2022 and missed the top-four spot by a whisker last year. But both Du Plessis and Kohli shared some great partnerships in the last two seasons and were among runs.
Virat Kohli is will be a great example for the younger generation: Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis, who is a good friend of Virat Kohli’s close friend AB de Villiers, said that the focus on their cricket and fitness has brought him and Kohli closer too.
Speaking with Star Sports ahead of IPL 2024, Faf said, “There are quite a few things that Virat and I are very similar, very alike in the way we see the game or think about the game, but also in how we look at ourselves and how we want to be. Obviously athletic, train hard, be fit, eat well. So we look at a holistic approach to being a professional sportsman and I think that’s why we connected so well in my first season at RCB, we were very similar.
“And yes he’s amazing, he trains hard, he’s very fit, and I feel like in today’s age of sport you have to be like that if you’re looking for longevity so he will be a great example for the younger generation that maybe feel like they can just come in and rely on their talent. Yes they are good enough in terms of talent but in terms of longevity in your body to make sure you can play for as long as possible, fitness will definitely play a role.”
Faf du Plessis returned to decent form during the second half of the SA20 season, where his team Joburg Super Kings reached the playoffs but failed to reach the final.
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has been away from cricket for over a month as he is with his wife Anushka Sharma and their newborn son Akaay in London.
