Talk about devastation and Ellyse Perry set the house on fire with a spell that would ring for the ages to come. A spell that left Mumbai Indians done and dusted, was a blazing testimony to her eclipsing stature in women’s cricket.
Just when it felt that Mumbai Indians had an amazing start to the contest through the likes of Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana, Perry grabbed a brilliant take at deep square leg sliding forward. This however was just a booming overture that had everyone riveted in.
What followed suit was a sky-shattering crescendo as Perry erupted like a volcano, consuming Mumbai Indians in her wake. Her extraordinary haul started off with the big scalp of Sajana as she tentative drive outside the off-stump would only result her in missing the line as the ball crashed into the stumps.
She followed it up with another jaffa that left Harmanpreet Kaur reeling for a golden duck. Despite missing out on her hattrick, Perry got the better of Amelia Kerr with another ripper as the latter was on her way back to the pavilion after being caught leg before wicket against Pez.
Amanjot Kaur had no response to Perry’s fiery bowling either as she was foxed by a delivery that started outside off while chiming back in to crash onto her timbre making it four for Pez. Well as they say for any bowler, in any format, the fifth one is always special and it was Pooja Vastrakar who eventually ended up as the fifth victim of the day for Pez.
