IPL 2024: Mark Boucher Gave A Huge Update About Suryakumar Yadav's Health

Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher gave a huge update on the fitness of star batter Suryakumar Yadav, who suffered Sports Hernia last December and hasn’t returned to action since then.

It’s still uncertain whether Suryakumar Yadav will be part of the upcoming IPL 2024 edition, as his return to competitive cricket remains unclear. Yadav has been a vital player for the Mumbai Indians in recent years, and his absence could pose challenges for the five-time champions.

For the unversed, Sports Hernia is not the typical hernia we’re accustomed to. It occurs when someone repeatedly twists their pelvis area forcefully. Suryakumar Yadav sustained this injury, possibly during the T20I series in South Africa, where he was leading the Indian team.

Mark Boucher Gave A Huge Update About Suryakumar Yadav’s Health

In a recent press conference, Mark Boucher, who made headlines by removing Rohit Sharma from captaincy in favor of Hardik Pandya, stated that Mumbai Indians will need to adjust if Suryakumar Yadav doesn’t make a comeback. He mentioned that the BCCI hasn’t provided updates on Yadav’s condition, and despite having a top-notch medical team, they are grappling with several injury concerns.

Mark Boucher said to press reporters: “We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always been under a cloud of fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two in terms of fitness but we have to move on as is sport,”

Suryakumar Yadav’s last cricket match was on December 14 last year in Johannesburg, where he scored a brilliant century in a T20I game against South Africa. Since then, he hasn’t played any cricket, not even in the DY Patil T20 tournament.

If he does return, there will be concerns about his form since he hasn’t played in three months. The BCCI won’t rush his comeback to avoid worsening his injury and jeopardizing his availability for India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in June.
