Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have received a huge blow ahead of the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League as Sri Lankan bowler Dilshan Madushanka won’t be playing at the beginning of the upcoming tournament.

Yes, the star bowler has been ruled out of the initial stages of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League because of an injury. He got hurt during the 2nd ODI match against Bangladesh.

Madushanka got injured during the 7th over in the 2nd ODI match against Bangladesh and he had to stop bowling and leave the field immediately. As a result, Dilshan has been ruled out of the final ODI match against Bangladesh and won’t be available for selection in the upcoming Test series because of a hamstring injury.

In the ongoing series against Bangladesh, Dilshan picked four wickets and had an economy rate of 5.04. He also managed to dismiss Litton Das in both the games he played. But he will have to miss the final ODI because of the injury and will now focus on recovering.

“Dilshan Madushanka will not further take part in the ongoing tour as the bowler will return to start rehabilitation work after suffering an injury during the 2nd ODI. Madushanka, who left the field during the second ODI while bowling, has suffered a left hamstring injury, as confirmed by an MRI scan performed on the player,” the statement read.

As per a report by ESPNCricinfo, Dilshan will be missing from the starting matches of IPL 2024 because of his hamstring injury. Riding on his impressive performances in the ODI World Cup 2023, Dilshan was roped in by Mumbai Indians for INR 4.6 crore. However, his injury has come up as a big blow for Mumbai Indians as it has created a big gap in the pace bowling line-up of the team. MI has alternatives like Nuwan Thushara and Jason Behrendorff to fill the place

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will kickstart their IPL 2024 journey with a clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
