In a historic moment, Smriti Mandhana and her RCB women’s team got a guard of honour from the RCB men’s team on Tuesday at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
Like last year, RCB organised an Unbox event and this time it was a grander celebration as a couple of days ago, Smriti Mandhana captained the RCB women’s team to the WPL 2024 trophy, ending the wait of the RCB fans for their first-ever franchise trophy. The women’s team was felicitated at the stadium in front of a massive home crowd.
RCB defeated Delhi Capitals women in the WPL 2024 final in Delhi this Sunday. This was DC’s second consecutive final loss – they had lost to Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians in the final of the inaugural edition. Last season, RCB women had finished fifth in the six-team tournament after losing their first five matches.
This time, though, after finishing third in the points table, they defeated MI in the Eliminator and favourites DC in the final.

Smriti Mandhana, who also done the jersey number 18 like Virat Kohli, had lavished praise on Kohli for his achievements as an RCB cricketer. She said that she doesn’t feel any need for comparison by media and fans.
“Title is one thing, but the other No.18 has achieved a lot for India and that is a big thing. So, I don’t think the comparison is right in terms of where my career is and what he has already achieved,” Mandhana said.
“I don’t like being compared because what he has achieved has been great; he has been an inspirational person. The title doesn’t define a lot of things. We all respect him and I feel like the respect in Indian cricket has to be right up there for Virat,” she added.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is ready to return to action through the IPL 2024 after missing the England Test series for the birth of his child in London.
