Former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad has expressed his support for Virat Kohli amidst rumors about Kohli’s spot being at risk for India’s T20 World Cup squad. Reports suggest that selectors are reconsidering Kohli’s position in the T20I team, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming IPL for Kohli to prove himself.
The batting maestro was brought back into the T20I squad earlier this year for the Afghanistan T20Is. He had opted out of T20Is after the 2022 T20 WC along with Rohit Sharma, but they both returned for the Afghanistan series.
MSK Prasad Gave An Honest Verdict On Virat Kohli’s Participation In T20 World Cup 2024

Meanwhile, MSK Prasad has supported Kohli’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad and indicated that the IPL shouldn’t be the sole criteria for a player of his caliber to prove himself. Speaking to official broadcasters, MSK Prasad said:
“Kohli is crucial for India in the T20 World Cup. The selectors can’t think that IPL is a place for him to prove his quality. He was never out of the team for his form. He missed India matches because of family reasons. He has been in form for a long time. He will make runs in this IPL as well,”
Kohli holds the record for the most runs in T20 Internationals, accumulating 4037 runs in 117 matches at an impressive average of 51.75. Additionally, he enjoyed a stellar IPL season last year, amassing 639 runs with two centuries and six half-centuries to his name.
Meanwhile, he also praised the legendary Chennai Super Kings captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who will once again grace the field this season despite being 42 years old.
Prasad added: “At 42, Dhoni is still playing for CSK which shows his commitment to the team. Playing for a single franchise for so many years, he has made a huge impact on the team and on fans,”
The former BCCI chief selector highlighted Dhoni’s dedication to his franchise, noting that he participated in the last season despite struggling with a knee injury. He added:
“He played the entire league with injury to his leg and won the title,”
