Prithvi Shaw didn’t make it to the Delhi Capitals’ starting lineup for their IPL 2024 opener against Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on Saturday (March 23).

The match marks Rishabh Pant’s return as captain for DC. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who missed the entire last season, is playing his first competitive game since December last year. DC also has a new opening combination for IPL 2024.

Fans Are Slamming Delhi Capitals’ Management For Ignoring Prithvi Shaw

In the last IPL, David Warner opened with Prithvi Shaw and Phil Salt. But now, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been promoted as Warner’s new opening partner. Marsh has been successful opening for Australia in T20Is, and DC hopes he’ll perform well at the top.

Prithvi Shaw missed out on a spot in the playing eleven due to his poor performance in last year’s IPL. Throughout the tournament, the right-handed batsman struggled and was even dropped midway through. In eight games, he only scored 106 runs, with 54 of them coming in a single match.

His recent performances in the Ranji Trophy were also unimpressive. In nine innings for Mumbai, he managed only one century and one half-century. Despite Shaw’s recent struggles, his exclusion from DC’s playing eleven has surprised many.
