Madhav Sharma Tweets Why Virat Kohli Can’t Be Called A Legend Of Test Cricket

Virat Kohli’s struggle with poor form continued as he was dismissed for just seven runs by England’s star bowler James Anderson on the opening day of the ongoing third Test match at Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds. Virat Kohli walked out to bat with a responsibility to bring back momentum to the game as the Indian side was reeling at 4/2, however, he failed to take his team to the safe shores.

Though initially, Virat looked confident driving a couple of balls nicely but soon he chose the wrong delivery to unleash his drive and failed miserably.

Anderson delivered a length ball, around the fifth stump channel. Virat played a very loose-looking shot as he looked to drive through the covers but only managed an outside edge and Jos Buttler behind the stumps did the rest.

This was the seventh time the Indian skipper has failed against Anderson, which is the joint-most to any bowler, along with Nathan Lyon. Also, with this dismissal, it has been 50 innings since Virat Kohli last scored a century.

Meanwhile, fans on social media were once again disappointed after Virat Kohli failed to give the best of his abilities yet again. From experts to fans, everyone took to Twitter to express their disappointment. Among many, a fan reckoned why Virat can’t be called a ‘legend’ of the Test format.

A popular Twitter user Madhav Sharma pointed out how a batsman of Virat’s class and stature should be able to make technical adjustments after having played so many Tests in England. He also wrote how his struggle against Anderson is putting doubt on Virat’s ‘legend’ status.

“Virat Kohli’s struggle in England, particularly against James Anderson raises a huge doubt on his “legend” status in Test cricket. A batsman of his class and stature should be able to make technical adjustments after playing so many Test matches in England. #ENGvIND”
