“The only thing I was cautious..” Suryakumar Yadav Reveals His Feelings During The T20 World Cup 2024 Final Catch

Suryakumar Yadav Reveals His Feelings During The T20 World Cup 2024 Final Catch

Suryakumar Yadav Reveals His Feelings During The T20 World Cup 2024 Final Catch: India had a memorable outing in Barbados in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. They arrived in the final without losing any game. However, they were rocked back early in the inning when they were reduced for 34/3. Virat Kohli stepped up on the day of the final and scored 76 runs. Axar Patel chipped in with 47 runs as India scored 176 in their 20 overs.

However, at one South Africa were 100 percent set to win the game with South Africa needing just 30 runs to win in the 30 deliveries and with 6 wickets left. Heinrich Klaasen was at his absolute best as he smoked Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in the previous two overs. However, what happened in the last five overs were utter madness.

South Africa could not get going against Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh as they finally lost the game by 7 runs. However, the main moment of the game was the breathtaking catch by Suryakumar Yadav in the first ball of the final over on the boundary line to send back David Miller. His catch practically secured the World Cup for India.

Hardik Pandya bowled a low full toss to David Miller with 16 needed off 6 balls. Miller gave it his all as the ball was seemingly flying over the long off boundary. However, in stepped Suryakumar Yadav. He leapt in the air, saved the ball from going over the boundary and then stepped in to take a sensational catch. It is definitely one of the greatest catches in T20 World Cup history.

Suryakumar Yadav expressed his feeling while taking the catch.

He said: “Rohit bhai usually never stands at long-on but at that moment he was there. So when the ball was coming, for a second I looked at him and he looked at me. I ran and my aim was to catch the ball. Had he [Rohit] been closer, I would have thrown the ball towards him. But he was nowhere close. In those four to five seconds, whatever happened, I can’t explain.”

He added: “When I pushed the ball [up and inside the playing area] and took the catch, I knew I hadn’t touched the rope. The only thing I was cautious about was that when I pushed the ball back inside, my feet don’t touch the rope. I knew it was a fair catch. In hindsight, anything could have happened. If the ball had gone for six, the equation would have been five balls, ten runs. We might have still won, but the margin would have been closer.”
