Ruturaj Gaikwad has been sensational as a batter during the 5 game T20I series against Zimbabwe. He has batted at number 3 and also number 4. The CSK captain has displayed great flexibility as a batter. Although, he has been a prolific with the bat, he has not received his fair share of chances in the Indian Cricket Team. He led India to a gold medal during the Asian Games. On top of that, the right-hander also has been a prolific performer for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Currently, he is also leading CSK after MS Dhoni relinquished his duties as a captain.
However, Suryakumar Yadav now makes his comeback in the Indian Cricket Team as a batter during the 3-game T20I series against Sri Lanka. He will also captain the Indian T20I team. The big news is that Gaikwad has lost his place in the squad for the series.
In the first two T20I’s vs Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill opened with Abhishek Sharma. From the third T20I, Gill opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rituraj Gaikwad had to bat at number 4. So, with Suryakumar Yadav back in the set-up, he is set to bat at number 4. However, Gaikwad was not even selected in the Indian T20I squad for the Sri Lanka tour.

Today, Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir and Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar, answered a number of questions in the press-conference before the Indian Cricket Team left for Sri Lanka. One of the main question that was asked was the reason behind Ruturaj Gaikwad’s snub from the T20I team.
Agarkar said that they wanted to experiment with their squad and give new players chances in the tour of Zimbabwe. The team wants a depth in the squad and also high quality bench players who can get into the first XI whenever a player faces injury or is out of form.
“We had an opportunity to give some of those guys a go in the Zimbabwe series, which was good. So, we have enough depth if tomorrow there is loss of form for the players that are playing or there are injuries,” Agarkar said during the press conference on July 22
