India’s star opener Shubman Gill finally broke his century drought as he secured his first ever international century on Monday in the third and final ODI match between Zimbabwe and India at the Harare Cricket Ground.
Shubman Gill Scored His Maiden Century
Shubman Gill had reached the triple-figure mark in just 82 balls as he inspired the KL Rahul-led team India to a series whitewash.
Before coming into the third ODI against Zimbabwe on Monday, Shubman Gill had scored 4 half-centuries in Tests and three in ODIs, however, a century was pending for a long time. He was named Player of the Series on the West Indies tour after ODI contests. Gill had missed out on his maiden century in the 3rd ODI against West Indies as he remained unbeaten on 98 when the rain stopped the play.
However, this time he didn’t hold back. Gill ended up scoring 130 runs in just 97 balls to help the Indian side put a massive total of 289 runs on the board. His stunning knock was laced with 15 fours and a six.
Gill’s effort broke Sachin Tendulkar‘s long-standing record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Zimbabwe.

Gill was awarded both the Man of the Match (MOTM) and Man of the Series Award (MOTS) as he was the highest run-getter in the series with a total of 245 runs in three innings at an average of 122.50.
Gill Dedicated His Century To His Father
After the game, Shubman Gill dedicated his maiden century to his father. Hailing him as his primary coach, Shubman Gill revealed that his dad was not happy with his dismissal in the 2nd ODI. He said:
“This one is for my dad as he has been my primary coach. I got a bit of schooling day before yesterday when I was out on 33. So this is for him,”
