‘Disrespectful, Disgraceful’: Monty Panesar Slammed ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’

Former England spinner Monty Panesar has come down hard on Aamir Khan’s latest released Laal Singh Chaddha. The movie was recently released in the theatres on Thursday and has opened to a below-average response from the audience.

The much-talked-about film is a remake of the Hollywood Oscar-winner Forrest Gump, which revolves around the life of a man with a low IQ, making it all the way into the US Army and into American history books.

Even before the movie was released, it had sparked controversy after thousands of netizens urged everyone to boycott it. The reason behind the boycott calls were the controversial statements made by Aamir Khan in the past and the portrayal of the Hindu religion in his movie PK.

Monty Panesar Slammed Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chadha

However, Panesar called the movie “disrespectful” and “disgraceful” to Sikhs, the Indian Armed Forces, and the Indian Army. In his Tweet, Panesar explained that the Hollywood movie is explicable because the US Army was recruiting low-IQ men to meet requirements for the Vietnam War. However, he disagreed with the plot of the Aamir Khan starrer movie because of its inaccurate portrayal of a Sikh. Panesar wrote:

Forrest Gump fits in the US Army because the US was recruiting low IQ men to meet requirements for the Vietnam War. This movie is total disgrace to India Armed Forces Indian Army and Sikhs !!Disrespectful. Disgraceful. #BoycottLalSinghChadda”

Aamir Khan On The Controversy

Recently, Aamir himself was asked to comment on the boycott calls and he said: “I do not want to hurt anyone, but if people don’t want to see the film, I would respect that too. There is not much you can do about that. But I would still want Laal Singh Chaddha to reach a wide audience. A movie is brought to life by a team of a hardworking crew and artistes, so I just hope people like it.”
