And though, the Proteas might have lost the first T20 against England on Wednesday night by 41 runs, however, they will be comforted by the rise of a new South African cricket sensation.
Tristan Stubbs, who was playing in just his third T20I and batting for his country for the first time, impressed one and all with his breathtaking innings of 72 runs off just 28 balls.
Moeen Ali Scored 50 Off Just 16 Balls
Earlier England put on a wonderful batting performance, riding on the back of stellar fifties of Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali. England all-rounder Moeen Ali put up a stellar show as he displayed his superb aggressive batting. Moeen Ali destroyed the opposition, smashing a half-century off just 16 balls. After his fiery half-century, England put on 234 runs on board from their 20 overs.
South Africa had a difficult task in their hand to chase the massive total and they didn’t get off the best of starts, losing Quinton de Kock and Rile Rossouw early in the chase. South Africa tried to bring back the momentum and they were in the game for as long as they were until everything was down to Stubbs.
Tristan Stubbs Played A Sensational Knock
Tristan Stubbs showed an incredible range of powerful shots as he smashed the England bowlers to all the corners of the ground. He played a stunning knock of 72 runs that came off just 28 balls. His sensational knock was laced with 8 sixes and 2 fours. However, all his efforts went in vain as South Africa fell short of 41 runs to chase the target.

It has to be noted that Stubbs has already been identified by the Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians.
During the post-match presentation, Lungi Ngidi, who was the pick of the Proteas bowlers with 5/39(4), heaped praises on Stubbs for his terrific performance. He said:
“We had full faith in Stubbs. During training he has shown us what he is capable of doing, so we weren’t really surprised to see what we saw today. I have bowled to him myself and I’ve been on the receiving end of what you guys saw tonight.”
He added: “He’s a very confident chap and you can see he’s a big guy. He strikes the ball well. That’s how he plays cricket. What you saw tonight is what he practices. I’m very happy for him to finally get a chance to go out and show the world what he can do and what he’s capable of.”
Talking about Stubbs’ chances of playing in the upcoming T20 World Cup, Ngidi said:
“He’s definitely put his hand up tonight for a spot in the World Cup,”
He added: “It’s exciting to see and I don’t think any coach would be sad with what he saw tonight. He’s got a long career ahead of him, and if this is how he’s going to keep going, it’s a bright future.”
