Former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli has been one of the leading performers in the Indian Premier League. Popularly known as the Run Machine, Virat Kohli’s hunger and ability to score runs at will is what makes him one of the greats. He is the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League, having scored 6283 runs.
It was back in 2018, when Virat Kohli was inducted in the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp and since then there has been no turning backs for the stylish cricketer. In fact, Virat Kohli is the only cricketer in the IPL history who has played only for one franchise. Yes, Virat Kohli has been associated with the Bangalore-based franchise ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League.
The former Indian captain was the skipper of the Indian team that won the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, when he was roped in by the Bangalore-based franchise. Recently, speaking to Danish Sait in a podcast for RCB, Virat Kohli went back in time and spoke about him getting picked by the RCB. He revealed:
“We were all in Malaysia for the U-19 World Cup. I remember the day when the drafts were happening. The U19 dynamic was a little different, because we very rightly so had a money cap, if I could say. That was the only time where I saw a restriction on how much you can be picked for if you haven’t played for India”,
Virat also revealed that how he was thrilled after he got to know the signing amount. He revealed that he thought that the amount was ‘crazy’, considering the fact that he wasn’t even playing for team India back then. He revealed:
“So that for us, I remember even that moment for us was so amazing. Because the amount that we got picked for when they announced it, we couldn’t believe it because it was absolutely crazy,”
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was retained by the franchise for the upcoming 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League ahead of the mega-autions, however, this time he will not be leading the franchise as he had stepped down from the position of captaincy last year.
Virat will be next seen in action in the upcoming limited-overs series at home against West Indies, which will kickstart from February 6th.
