The current head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid, turned 49 on Tuesday. He is currently in Cape Town as the Asian giants take on South Africa for a series decider as India aim to register their maiden Test series win on South African soil.
Rahul Dravid was born on this day, January 11, 1973, in the city of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He, though, went on to play domestic cricket for Karnataka before making his India debut.
The right-hander made his India debut in 1996. Rest is history. Rahul Dravid piled up 13288 Test runs at an average of 52 and 10889 ODI runs at 39. He hit a total of 48 international hundreds to go with 146 half-centuries. He also achieved greatness as a slip fielder.
Dravid played his last Test in 2012. However, there are some records of the legendary cricketer that stand till date.
5 Great Records Of Rahul Dravid Which Are Still Unbroken:
1. Dravid is the only batsman in the world to play 30000 plus balls in Test cricket. He faced a record 31258 balls in his Test career, the most by a far distance.
This is one of the most talked-about points on Rahul Dravid: his patience, his endurance; his ability to deny even the best of the bowlers his wicket; to blunt out ball after ball, over after over, frustrating the opposition bowlers.
2. Dravid holds the world record for not getting a golden duck even once in the first 286 Test innings.
3. Rahul Dravid is also regarded as one of the safest hands to field in the slip cordon, for he hardly missed any catches. He holds the record for being the non-wicketkeeper player with the most catches in Tests with 210 catches.
4. Dravid is the first player in the history of ODI cricket, who has been part of 300 plus partnerships twice.
In May 1999, Dravid and Sourav Ganguly together scored 318 runs against Sri Lanka, while in November 1999, Dravid joined hands with Sachin Tendulkar to forge a partnership of 331 runs against New Zealand, which was then a world record. This record of 331 runs has been broken only twice since then.
5. Also, Dravid has made 126 partnerships of 50 or more runs and 88 partnerships of 100 or more runs in Tests.
