Former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni is hailed as one of the greatest cricketers to have ever played the game. Even after a year of his retirement, MS dhoni is still a prized property in the cricket world.
Dhoni is arguably one of the most loved cricketers across the globe. He is also the most successful skipper in international cricket, having won all the three ICC trophies – ICC T20 World Cup (2007), ICC ODI World Cup (2011), and ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. A few months back, Dhoni led his team Chennai Super Kings to their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) win in the 2021 edition of the IPL at the UAE defeating Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders.
Who wouldn’t want a captain like MS Dhoni in his team? Not many are aware of the fact that back in 2018, Bollywood superstar and owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan desperately wanted to have MS Dhoni in his team.
Yes, SRK was super keen on buying MSD for KKR and was eagerly waiting for him to be a part of the mega-auctions.
Ahead of the inaugural season in 2008, MS Dhoni for the first time in IPL had gone under the hammer and was roped in by Chennai Super Kings for $1.5 million – the highest amount for any player at the time, and since then there have been no turning backs for the captain. Since then, MS has never entered the IPL auction.
When CSK was banned for two years from the league, MS had played for now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant. It was in 2018 when MS was all set to return back to CSK, SRK had expressed his desire to have him in his purple squad.
“Yaar main toh usko apna pajama bech ke bhi kharid lun, wo aaye toh auction mein. (Brother, I can even sell my pants to buy Dhoni. He has to come for the auction for that),” SRK was quoted as saying by Sportswallah back then.
Meanwhile, MS has once again been retained by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the mega-auctions and will be seen leading the yellow-army in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
