Ravi Ashwin, who was playing his 80th Test against New Zealand in Kanpur, equaled former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram (414 wickets) in the list of most wickets in the longest format of the game.

Ashwin achieved this milestone on Day 3 of the ongoing 1st Test match against New Zealand when he dismissed the first wicket of the day — Zealand opening batter Will Young (95). This wicket also gave a major breakthrough to the Indian side as it helped in breaking a 151-run opening partnership between Young and Tom Latham (89).

Further, Ashwin is just one wicket away to surpass Wasim Akram in this elite list and is only four wickets away from surpassing veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh (417 wickets). If he adds eight more wickets, he will surpass former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock (421) in this list.

Ravi Ashwin, who is currently in a red-hot avatar, entered the ongoing match at the Green Park as the 15th highest wicket-taker in Tests but if picks eight more wickets to outshine Pollock, he will end this series as the 11th highest wicket-taker in the Test history.
