Legendary Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings’ skipper MS Dhoni made a big promise to his fans while talking about his future in the Indian Premier League. In some good news for the fans of Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni dropped a subtle hint that he will be playing in the IPL 2022 amidst speculations that he will retire from all forms of the game

MS Dhoni was speaking at a felicitation function, on Saturday, which was hosted by the India Cements to celebrate the victory of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021 in the UAE. At the event, a total of seven players and five backroom staffers were honored at the event which was titled ‘The Champions Call’.

During the event, MS Dhoni expressed his wish to play his final T20I match at the den of the Yellow Army, i.e, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, a venue which is very close to the heart of MS Dhoni. He said that he’s hoping to return to Chepauk and play his final game in Chennai for the four-time IPL champions. He said:

“I will think about it, there is a lot of time, right now we are just in November. IPL 2022 will be played in April,”

He added:

“I have always planned my cricket. You know my last game that I played, was in Ranchi. (In) the ODI version, the last home game was at my hometown in Ranchi. So hopefully, my last T20, it will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year, or in five years’ time, we don’t think about it,”

Meanwhile, in the IPL 2022 season, two new teams will be joining the cash-rich league — one from Ahmedabad and the other from Lucknow. But before going into the next season of the Indian Premier League, all the players will have to go through the mega-auctions.

However, earlier Dhoni had also pointed out that he hasn’t yet left behind his legacy, hinting that he might just play for CSK in IPL 2022.

Earlier, after guiding his team Chennai Super Kings to their 4th title win in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League, MS Dhoni was asked about his future in IPL. Responding to this, he had remained coy on his future with the team. He had said:

“Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in, we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,”
