Aakash Chopra Revealed ‘Bonus Money’ Paid To Indian Test Cricketers: The Indian cricketers are among the most loved cricketers around the world. With BCCI being the richest cricket board in the world, the Indian cricketers are also among the top paid players in world cricket.
An Indian cricketer with a Grade A+ contract earns Rs 7 crore per year, while those in Grade A earn Rs 5 crore. Cricketers with Grade B have a salary of Rs 3 crore and the ones with Grade C draw Rs 1 crore annually. This is the fixed salary of the Indian cricketers, irrespective of the number of games they play.
Besides this, an Indian player gets a match fee of Rs 15 lakh for a Test match, Rs. 6 lakh for an ODI match, and Rs 3 lakh for every T20I match. And the players who aren’t able to make it to the playing XI draw 50% of the match fee.
While we all are aware about these figures as it is already available on the public domain, however, not many are aware of the fact that there is also a ‘bonus money’ that an Indian cricketer receives as a reward in the longest format of the game.
Yes, you read that right. Recently, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra revealed some interesting details about the money Indian cricketers receive.
In his latest YouTube video, Aakash Chopra revealed that an Indian player receives an extra amount of Rs 7 lakh if he scores a double-century. He revealed:
“The Indian players get a lot of money, Grade A+ contract is 7 crores, Grade A is 5 crores, Grade B is 3 crores and Grade C also gets 1 crore. You get 15 lakh per Test, 6 lakh per ODI and 3 lakh per T20I and whoever sits out gets half the amount.”
He added:
“You get 5 lakh for scoring a century and for taking a 5-wicket haul as well. You get 7 lakh to make a double ton, so whoever plays Test cricket has a slightly higher reward.”
Aakash Chopra pointed out that England’s all-format cricketers earn much more than the Indian cricketers with the A+ contract. He said:
“The England Test contract is worth 6.7 crores, nearly the same as our A+ contract. The white-ball only contract gets 3.1 crore, which is not that great but not that bad. But players who play both, they get 9.8 crores.”
Aakash Chopra also highlighted that Joe Root’s captaincy bonus helps him earn more than the Indian skipper. He concluded by stating that the England cricketers earn more than their Indian counterparts per match as well. He said:
“So Joe Root gets nearly 10 crores per year and that is not all, the team skipper gets a 25% bonus. So he is at a contract of 12.5 crores whereas our Virat Kohli has a contract of only 7 crores. Of course, the IPL money is different.”
He added:
Then you get 18.5 lakh for every Test match, ODI is 10 lakh and T20I is 5.1 lakh. They are way ahead of India, which is an eye-opener.”
