IPL 2021 Retention: Chennai Super Kings, which is one of the most successful teams of the IPL, having won the title 3 times had a forgetful season in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League.
There’s no doubt to the fact that the team has always relied on the experienced player more than the youngsters. This is one of the reasons that they have earned the nickname of the ‘Dad’s Army’. However, during the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, no experience worked in favor of the team.
With many of its key players including Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina not being available to play in the tournament, CSK had a weaker side in IPL 2020. As a result, CSK ended the tournament seventh in the points table. The team didn’t qualify for IPL Play-offs for the first time in the history of IPL. Therefore, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings were expected to make some changes in their squad ahead of IPL 2021.
While they have released 7 players, the team has retained its ‘Chinna Thala’. Suresh Raina had pulled out from IPL 2020 under controversial circumstances last year. However, the team has decided to stick with its star player.
Besides Suresh Raina, the team has also retained Sam Curran, who turned out to be the hero for CSK in IPL 2020. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Shardul Thakur are a few of the players retained by the team.
