Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian skipper and current president of BCCI is regarded as one of the best skippers of team India. He has always been credited for giving a new dimension to team India. Sourav Ganguly took over the captaincy when the Indian cricket team was going through a tough time and was reeling under the scourge of match-fixing.
Not just he took the Indian cricket team to new heights but he also introduced several cricketers, who went on to become the modern legends of this game, including the likes of MS Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and many more.
Recently, Sourav Ganguly delivered an online lecture on Unacademy, where he expressed that his biggest legacy is the match-winners he introduced to the cricketing world. He said:
“That (2011 World Cup winning team) team had seven or eight players who started their careers under me. The likes of (Virender) Sehwag, Dhoni himself, Yuvraj (Singh), Zaheer (Khan), Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra. So I think that’s a legacy which I was extremely happy to leave behind as a captain. And that was my biggest legacy that I left a side which had the ability of winning at home and away from home,”
Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly expressed how he was thrilled to watch MS Dhoni lifting the World Cup 2011 trophy as it made him nostalgic for World Cup 2003, where his team lost the match to Australia. He said:
“I remember I was at the Wankhede Stadium that night and I came down from the commentary box to watch Dhoni and the team go around the ground. In 2003 the team which I was the captain lost the final to Australia so I was so happy to see Dhoni have the opportunity to win that trophy,”
