India vs England 2016: India drop Gautam Gambhir and recall Bhuvneshwar Kumar

India’s opening batsman Gautam   Gambhir was dropped from India’s squad, for the remaining 3 matches against England. Gambhir, who failed to score big in the first Test in Rajkot, was dropped after KL Rahul cleared his fitness test and made an appearance for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy. India’s Test skipper Virat Kohli also made it clear after the first Test that KL Rahul is India’s first-choice opener in Test cricket alongside Murali Vijay and he walks in the playing XI as soon as he is declared fit.

The selection committee has also recalled fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the squad. The 26-year-old was missing from the squad after suffering a back strain during the second Test against New Zealand at the Eden Gardens. He made a return to playing competitive cricket in Uttar Pradesh’s Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai earlier this month. Having proven his fitness, the pacer has made his way back into the team.
