Virender Sehwag Questions Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Moves: Mumbai Indians, who are the most successful franchise in history, had a forgettable start to the ongoing 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. The team continued with their disastrous run in the ongoing season, after they suffered their fifth defeat on the trot on Wednesday at the hands of Punjab Kings.
The Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians are struggling badly with their form – be it their bowling or batting, they aren’t looking anything like the champions they have been in the tournament.
While there were signs of the batters returning back to their prime form in the previous game, the bowlers of the Mumbai Indians have been finding it difficult to produce impactful performances in the ongoing season.
On Wednesday, Mumbai’s poor bowling was once again on display as they were dominated by the Punjab Kings’ batters. The bowlers ended up with the figures of — Basil Thampi (2/47), Jasprit Bumrah (1/28), Murugan Ashwin (1/34), and Jaydev Unadkat (1/44).
Meanwhile, expressing his concern over Mumbai Indians’ struggling bowling attack, former India opener Virender Sehwag feels that the team is thin on quality bowling options and thus they need to back their resources. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said:
“They can play [Riley] Meredith, he has the potential. Even Mills has the potential but it’s important to see how long you can stick to a player when he gets smashed. If you can give 5-6 games to a batter then you should also give the bowler a chance to make a comeback. You can divide the teams and play a bowler only against some particular teams,”
Sehwag also opined that Mumbai should rely on their experienced players, citing the example of Chennai Super Kings, who recently pulled off a stunning win after suffering 4 consecutive defeats in the IPL 2022. He said:
“Generally, in pressure situations, experience matters and that is exactly what Chennai’s ‘Daddy Army’ did in their title-winning seasons,”
Mumbai Indians will now lock their horns with Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday at the Brabourne Stadium.
