The 4th ODI in the Sri Lankan series has been wrapped and India won comfortably by a huge margin. At one point, it seemed like the Indians would reach 400+ but the Lankans were able to somewhat consolidate and keep the score to 375. However, cameos by MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey at the end ensured that India always stayed in a good position even till the end.

In the 49th over, both Dhoni and Pandey were in their 40s, looking to reach their half-centuries. However, in the penultimate ball, Dhoni hit one to long on and called for a two. Pandey rightfully sent him back and Dhoni’s reaction proved that he doesn’t care about milestones as long as India win the game.

Allowed Pandey to complete century:

MS Dhoni then ran the last ball of the innings hard so that Pandey could complete his half century. The best part was when Dhoni showed a thumbs up at the end of the penultimate ball to show that Pandey’s call was right and he had no qualms about not being able to reach the milestone.

On his 300th ODI, Dhoni was 49*, going to poetically emphasise how he has always been a team player. India has been blessed to have a player who is able to raise the game of those around him and at the same time, win matches for the country with ease.

MS Dhoni may not have long left in international cricket, but his performances for the country prove that he is a legend who will go down as one of the greatest of all time.
