Ambati Rayudu Joins The Elite List Of IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings started their IPL campaign on the perfect note as they defeated their rivals Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the opening game of the 13th season of the IPL
Ambati Rayudu who wasn’t picked in the Indian World Cup squad a year ago was the star performer as he scored 71 off 48 balls in a run chase of 163.
CSK won the toss and elected to bowl first on what seemed a decent wicket. Mumbai Indians started off really well but lost their way after 10 overs and as a result, were reduced to 162-9 in their 20 overs.
Almost all the CSK bowlers were amongst the wickets. Chasing 163, CSK was in deep trouble as the MI fast bowlers – Trent Boult and James Pattinson sent back Shane Watson and Murali Vijay back to the pavilion in the first two overs.
Ambati Rayudu who hadn’t played competitive cricket for a while came into bat at the same position where he was supposed to bat for India in the World Cup. He came in when the score was 6-2 in two overs. He not only faced the fire from the MI bowlers but also started taking them on and went to on score the first fifty of the tournament.
He scored 71 off 48 balls with three sixes and six fours. He got out before finishing the game but his contribution was more than enough for the CSK team to win the game. As a result, Ambati Rayudu won the Man of the Match record and created a unique record.
He won his tenth Man of the Match award in the history of the IPL and became only the tenth Indian to win ten Man of the Match awards in the IPL. He joined a list of greats that contain the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir, and his team captain MS Dhoni.
Ambati Rayudu who wasn’t sure about his career a year ago made a huge statement by performing in this fashion. This is a list which many Indians would love to be a part of and Rayudu has now entered that list.
