IPL Auction 2020: 3 Most Overpaid Players Of The Season

The IPL auctions always tend to throw in surprises which come as a shock for the fans. Sometimes, a few of the players don’t get picked for the desired amount while at times, some of the players are over-priced and end up bagging enormous price tags. The same happened in IPL 2020 auction as well as the franchises’ locked horns with each other and brought in some of the players for an exorbitant amount.

Here is a look at the players who were picked by the eight franchises in the IPL 2020 auction.

Mumbai Indians- Chris Lynn, Saurabh Tiwary, Mohsin Khan, Prince Balwant Rai Singh, Digvijay Deshmukh, Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Delhi Capitals-  Jason Roy, Mohit Sharma, Lalit Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, Alex Carey, Shimron Hetmyer.

Rajasthan Royals- Robin Uthappa, David Miller, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi, Akash Singh, Oshane Thomas, Andrew Tye, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Anirudha Joshi, Tom Curran, Anuj Rawat.

Sunrisers Hyderabad- Virat Singh, Priyam Garg, Abdul Samad, Mitchell Marsh, Fabian Allen, Sanjay Yadav.

Royal Challengers Bangalore- Aaron Finch, Kane Richardson, Dale Steyn, Isuru Udana, Chris Morris, Pavan Deshpande, Joshua Philippe, Shahbaz Ahamad.

Kings XI Punjab- Sheldon CottrellIshan PorelRavi Bishnoi, Glenn Maxwell, James Neesham, Chris Jordan, Deepak Hooda, Tajinder Singh Dhillon, Prabhsimran Singh.

Chennai Super Kings- Piyush Chawla, Josh Hazlewood, R Sai Kishore, Sam Curran.

Kolkata Knight Riders- Eoin Morgan, Tom Banton, Rahul Tripathi, Varun Chakravarthy, M Siddharth, Praveen Tambe, Pat Cummins, Chris Green,  Nikhil Naik.

From the aforementioned list, it is clear about the “who’s who” for the next edition of the IPL. However, a number of these players were brought in by their respective sides for a huge sum of money, which looked rather unnecessary given the traits of the player and thus, putting the “over-priced” tag on that player. We will be looking at three such players in the following lines.

Pat Cummins (Sold to KKR for Rs. 15.5 Crore)

Pat Cummins (INR 15.5 crore) was the most expensive player in the IPL 2020 auction. The player has been unable to make any solid impression so far in whatever matches he has played in the IPL and paying such a huge sum of money for the Aussie actually raised a few eyebrows as well. However, his current employers, the KKR should be hopeful that Cummins would be able to make justice to his huge price tag when the tournament begins and does not leave the franchisee all red-faced.

Piyush Chawla (Sold to CSK for Rs. 6.75 Crore)

The KKR reject went to Chennai Super Kings for an amount of Rs. 6.75 Crore at the IPL 2020 auction, which seemed to be a little too much. Well past his prime, the Indian leg spinner has been picked up as a backup for the likes of Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, and Harbhajan Singh, which will make it difficult for him to make justice to his price tag. In the last term, he had a difficult time in the middle, which saw the player being dropped by the former IPL champions after IPL 2019. We will now have to wait and watch to see what goods can the leggie deliver in the next edition of the IPL.

Nathan Coulter-Nile (Sold to MI for Rs. 8 Crore)

The former Mumbai Indians player had the opportunity to lift the trophy last time when he was with his current employers. He is capable of picking up wickets with his military medium pace bowling and can hit a few across beyond the boundary as well, but paying a whopping 8 Crores for a player who looks to be well past his prime might come back to bite the defending champions in the next edition of the IPL. Nathan Coulter-Nile was another big surprise at the IPL 2020 auction.
