Is CSK Getting The Unfair Advantage?

By Shashi Agarwal

The storm which was to strike the Indian cricket on 7th of March has now been postponed till 25th March, with the Supreme court hearing adjourned till 25th of March. But the most talking aspect has been the BCCI pleading the Supreme Court not to make the names of cricketers public, the ones whose names have been submitted by the Mudgal committee to the Supreme Court. Earlier the Mudgal Committee has submitted a report to the Supreme Court raising questions over the role of 6 Indian players in IPL betting, one of which is believed to be a part of the current Indian squad.

The BCCI has filed an affidavit in which they agreed that Gurunath Meiyappan was an official of the Chennai SuperKings. But they said that there’s no reason found to remove CSK from the IPL as none of the owners violated any code of conduct as per IPL rules and regulations and Meiyappan was just an official. They admitted that CSK gave him powers which only the owners should have. Also the IPL probe member wanted that it should be left on to BCCI to decide the fate of CSK.

But it seems to be quite clear that BCCI lead by N Srinivasan are trying their best for the CSK, with questions raising over the future of CSK. The IPS officer who named Dhoni in this betting and fixing scandal has been removed without any explanation. This clearly speaks of the power of N. Srinivasan . This has raised questions over Dhoni’s role and who knows , he might be on of the accused player. The case stands at an interesting situation with new hearing date scheduled to be during the T20 World Cup with all probability of an accused Indain player playing in the tournament. Also it is clear that CSK will get into more trouble after the names of the players are made public.

But with the power of BCCI and N.Srinivasan , it looks unlikely that CSK will face termination.Lets hope the best from the judiciary and be prepared for the outcomes on 25th March.
