4 Lesser-Known Cricket Records: Cricket is often regarded as a funny game. In the past, the sport has seen some unthinkable stuff unfold on a cricket field. While it is majorly about winning or losing, the series of events at times can take you by surprise. The stats, records, and numbers are always regarded as secondary products in cricket. However, on occasions, they can portray a rather beautiful picture.

Here, we take a look at 4 amazing stats that might blow your mind:

1. Adam Gilchrist never missed a game for Australia due to injury

4 Lesser-Known Records That Only 1 Out 10 Fans Would Know

The former Australian wicket-keeper batsman, Adam Gilchrist never missed an international fixture due to injury or fitness concerns. In his career span of nearly 12 years, Gilchrist played 96 Tests, 287 ODIs, and 13 T20Is for Australia. However, he never missed even a single match due to injury issues. He also holds the record for most consecutive ODI matches – 96 for Australia from a period between 1997 and 2001.

2. Sunil Gavaskar was exchanged with a fisherman’s baby at his birth

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar met an uncanny incident at his birth when he was exchanged with a fisherman’s child. However, it was his uncle who recognized that it was not Gavaskar due to his birthmark near his ear. Had it not been his uncle to identify the wrong child, India might not have seen one of the greatest batsmen of all-time open the batting during a certainly tough era for batsmanship.

Sunil Gavaskar was exchanged with a fisherman’s baby at birth. It was his Uncle who spotted that the child was not Sunny as he had a birthmark near his ear. “Perhaps, I would have grown up to be an obscure fisherman, toiling somewhere along the west coast,” Sunny G wrote.

3. The Nelson of the Nelsons

Some bizarre incidents have happened on a cricket field but nothing more bizarre than what unfolded in the Capetown Test between South Africa and Australia in 2011. On Day 3 of the Test match, the home team needed exactly 111 runs to win at 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month in 2011. The scoreboard read 11:11 11/11/11. The Cricket South Africa asked the fans at the ground to stand at one leg for that minute. Seeing the fans, even the umpire Ian Gould joined the spirit to stand on one leg.

4. Virat Kohli is the only Indian to score 100 runs by running in an ODI

4 Lesser-Known Records That Only 1 Out 10 Fans Would Know

Virat Kohli is one of the modern greats and his numbers speak for himself. His extraordinary stats in ODIs already see him being featured among the greatest batsmen of all-time. In one of his ODI innings against South Africa in 2018, Virat scored 100 runs while running between the wicket. In his tally of 160 runs, he scored only 12 fours and two sixes while running the rest in his monumental effort.
