Sarfaraz Ahmed is no longer the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team. The Pakistan Cricket Board has removed Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy from all three formats with immediate effect.
If reports are to be believed then the Head Coach of Pakistan cricket team wasn’t happy with Sarfaraz and thus he expressed his concerns with the CEO of Pakistan Cricket Board, Wasim Khan.
Babar Azam, who is one of the talented batsmen of Pakistan cricket team will now take over the role in the shortest formats, while on the other hand, veteran batsmen Azhar Ali will take over the captaincy of red-ball cricket.
Talking about Sarfaraz Ahmed, he is now under the scanner after they suffered a humiliating whitewash in three T20i match series. The loss against Sri Lanka costed Sarfaraz his captaincy. Talking about his journey as the captain of Pakistan cricket team, he said:
“It has been an honor to lead Pakistan at the highest level. I want to thank all my colleagues, coaches, and selectors who have helped me in this journey. My good wishes are with Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, and the Pakistan cricket team, and I hope they will continue to grow stronger and stronger.”
Social media is flooded with mixed reactions on this news. While many called this decision wrong, the others supported it. Here, have a look at how twitterati reacted on this news:
Maybe captaincy wasn’t his cup of tea but I always rated Sarfaraz as a cricketer. Huge pressure now on Babar Azam, already the best batsman, now captain too in limited overs cricket.

News of Sarfaraz Ahmed being removed as Captain from all formats. Test and ODI make sense but how could they remove him in T20 considering his successful stats? #Cricket #Pakistan #PCB #SarfarazAhmed pic.twitter.com/FkmMJDXwBN
