When putting across viewpoints and opinions, Pakistan’s former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar never minces his words, he is always clear and unbiased. Recently, he gave his views upon whether Virat Kohli should continue to be India’s captain or not.
Ever since India’s heartbreaking exit from World Cup 2019, Virat Kohli’s captaincy has become the most talked-about topic. Cricket pundits, experts, and cricketers are busy in debating upon whether Virat Kohli should continue to be India’s captain or not.
While many suggested that Virat should continue as India’s captain, the others suggested that India should follow England’s footsteps and go for split captaincy. Now Shoaib Akhtar has also joined in the debate.
Shoaib Akhtar believes Virat should continue as Indian skipper since a lot of investment has already gone into him and it will be foolish to remove him. Talking about Virat’s captaincy he said:
“I think Kohli should not be removed from captaincy because a lot has been invested into him. He has been leading the sides for the past three-four years now,”
He added:
“All he needs is a better coach and a better selection committee and he will improve. He will be a sensible choice once he gets the required support staff from the BCCI. Rohit Sharma, no doubt, has led Mumbai Indians well in the IPL. But I think a lot has been invested in Kohli’s captaincy. It will be completely foolish to remove Kohli.”
Furthermore, Shoaib Akhtar asked BCCI to have a talk with him and tell him where he made mistakes, especially in his batting during the world cup and groom him for upcoming matches.
Shoaib Akhtar, on the other hand, lashed out on Sarfaraz Ahmed and claimed that Sarfaraz should not continue as the skipper of Pakistan’s cricket team. Further, he even suggested that Haris Sohail as the captain of Pakistan’s limited-overs teams and Babar Azam for the Test team.
