Nuwan Kulasekara, the pacer of Sri Lanka’s cricket team, on Wednesday, announced his retirement with immediate effect. This came out as a shock to many, as his announcement came out a couple of days before Lasith Malinga will be playing his final match against Bangladesh on Friday.

Twitter was soon flooded with posts from fans, cricketers and cricket pundits, giving tribute to the pacer. However, he was trolled by former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif.

Mohammad Kaif took to his twitter to bid farewell to Kulasekara through a post. However, in his post, Kaif linked the Kulasekara with the final of the 2011 World Cup when the then India captain MS Dhoni hit him for a six to lift the World Cup 2011’s trophy. He wrote:

“Nuwan Kulasekara retires ! At one stage, the number one ODI bowler in the world,

but for every Indian, favourite Kulasekara moment is-
“Dhoni finishes off in style.. India lift the world cup after 28 years””.”

Here, check out his tweet :

Mohammad Kaif’s tweet didn’t go down well with the fans of ‘gentlemen’s game’, who were quick to tell him that it’s not the right way to bid farewell to someone who is retiring.

Twitterati even reminded Mohammad Kaif of T20 World Cup 2014, where Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni had struggled to score against Kulasekara’s death bowling, which eventually resulted in India losing the cup.

Here have a look at how twitterati reacted on this:

That’s not how you celebrate someone’s retirement. Somebody may ask your last test innings and why were you dropped straightaway #GroundedmyHero

Ur total career International Cricket matches is < than Kulasekara’s current age

Hi @MohammadKaif thanks for the reminder, but this is our favourite Nuwan Kulasekara moment, when his death bowling alongside Malinga was instrumental to lift the 2014 WT20 beating India.. pic.twitter.com/o1QGgtaCVt

Same man made yuvraj to retire early

Absurd tweet

— Md Arafat Ullah (@Heyimarafat) July 24, 2019

Not an ideal moment to remind a person who is retiring.

— M (@iHitman5) July 25, 2019

No sir it’s not a way to wish for player taking his retirement he is the same bowler who bowled superbly in wct20 finals in 2014 our duckraj Anna can’t take singles also in his bowling and finally duckraj played epic test knock and won it for Sri Lanka

— srujan dj (@Sarrinodu3) July 25, 2019

Lost whatever the respect I had for this guy.

— Manuka (@_ManukaH_) July 25, 2019

He definitely has better moments than that to celebrate. Remember 2014 T20 WC final ?
