Indian ‘Byju’ Might Replace Chinese ‘Oppo’ On Indian Cricket Team’s Jersey, Twitterati Are Appreciating The Move

Last updated:

September onwards, the Indian cricket team may have a new brand name on their jerseys. According to reports making rounds, Bangalore-based educational technology and online tutorial firm Byju is likely to replace the Chinese brand ‘Oppo’ on Indian cricket team’s jersey.

As per reports, the changes will be made after the end of the upcoming West Indies tour, which will kickstart from August 3 and will end on September 2. By the time, Indian cricketers will be seen donning the same jerseys with the brand name ‘Oppo’ on them.

However, before the start of India’s South Africa tour, Byju might take over Oppo as the main sponsors of the team.

According to a report by Times of India, it was in the year 2017 when Oppo had outbid Vivo to win the sponsorship rights for Rs 1,079 crore for a period of five years. i.e. till March 2022. But now the company has decided to take their sponsorship rights back as now they find the value at which it acquired the rights in the year 2017 to be “extremely high” and “unsustainable”.

Furthermore, BCCI will be at no loss as will keep receiving the same amount from Byju’s till March 31, 2022.

Twitterati appreciated the move of the Board of Control for Cricket in India to replace Chinese sponsors with an Indian start-up. Here, have a look at the reactions of twitterati:
