As a batsman to reach 10000 ODI runs is a dream come true. That is the best milestone a batsman can ever reach in One Day Cricket and not many have reached there. But there were a few legends who were so close to entering the elite club of 10000 ODI runs but they fell just short of a few runs. Their careers came to an end before they could reach 10000 ODI runs.
Here are 5 great legends who were so close to 10000 runs but could not achieve it
1. Mohammad Azharuddin
Mohammad Azharuddin was a legend of the game and one of the finest batsmen to ever play for India. But he could unfortunately not enter the 10000 elite club. Azharuddin finished his career with 9378 runs from 334 ODIs. He was very close to reaching this milestone but could not.
2. Adam Gilchrist
The best wicketkeeper-batsman to have ever played for the Aussies. He was a destructive opener and so instrumental to Australia’s success in One Day Internationals. Gilchrist ended his career 9619 runs from 287 games. We would have loved to see him score 10000 ODI runs.
3. Mohammad Yousuf
How bad would he have felt to finish his ODI career falling short of just 280 runs? Mohammad Yousuf scored 9720 runs from 288 matches. He was one of the most successful batsmen to ever play for Pakistan.
4. Saeed Anwar
Saeed Anwar is yet another legend who represented India on the international pedestal. Saeed Anwar scored 8824 runs from 247 ODIs. He too fell just a few runs short of reaching 10000 runs before hanging his boots.
5. Virender Sehwag
Sehwag is one of the best ODI players to have ever played for India. Sehwag is one of the most explosive openers to have ever played for India and he has hit the best bowlers in the world with so much ease and grace. Sehwag’s career came to an end with 8273 runs from 251 ODIs. Just a few more games to his career and he would have surely reached the milestone.
