Not long ago, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina were two of the best fielders in the world. These two gentlemen have done some spectacular things on the field. But, a recent report by the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina failed to pass the Yo Yo fitness test.

Yuvraj and Raina have massive armies of fans and they showed their disappointment after these two were not picked for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Australia.

In this post, The Cricket Lounge’s Divey Chawla lists some facts about the Yo Yo fitness test.

1. Yo Yo fitness Test is an advanced version of ‘beep’ test. Beep test is just about running to and from across a set distance.

2. Yo Yo fitness test makes the players pause for a short while in the middle, between each set of run, to mimic the start-stop nature of cricket. This requires more core strength and fitness.

3. Yo Yo fitness test is a software-based test which starts with cones being placed 20 metres apart.

4. If the player is unable to reach the line on time, he has to turn and run to the other line to overcome the delay within the next two beeps, failing which, the test ends.

5. This is what England’s Test captain Joe Root had to say about Yo Yo fitness test: “It’s not the best, it’s not nice but it’s 10-20 minutes of hard work and then you can relax.”
