AB de Villiers, one of the best batsmen in world cricket across all three formats, played one of the most outrageous knocks in the history of cricket. de Villiers reached his hundred in just 31 balls and broke Corey Anderson’s record of fastest hundred in ODI cricket. de Villiers broke Corey Anderson’s 36-ball record, which was set on New Year’s Day in 2014 in the Black Caps’ rain-curtailed 21-over ODI against West Indies at Queenstown.de Villiers played four dot balls in his innings. He broke the record of most number of sixes in an ODI innings.  92 off his first hundred runs came in boundaries (10 sixes and 8 fours).

Over the years,  we have seen many great knocks in ODI cricket and we will see many more great knocks in the years to come. But, this maniac knock by AB de Villiers will always remain one of the most specials knocks in the history of cricket.

This what de Villiers said after his historic knock:

“I was on 92 when I realised it was going to be close. I wasn’t going to take singles in the nineties,” he said.

“I got really fired up in the changing room and sort of played my knock before I even came out to bat.

“Aggression was the main thing for me today – I just wanted to go right from the start.”
