Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper is known for his flamboyant nature on and off the field. He is one of the most expressive cricketers on the field as his expressions and gestures says it all. Virat Kohli was recently honored with the ‘Spirit Of Cricket’ award from ICC.
Virat Kohli has been given this award for his gesture during the 2019 World Cup when he backed Steven Smith by asking the crowd to support Australia’s captain Steve Smith instead of booing him. Later a video of Virat Kohli was posted by ICC, where he can be seen revealing the reason why he backed Steve Smith during that time.
In the video, Virat Kohli explains the reason why he backed Steve Smith the way he did. Virat said:
“That moment was purely understanding an individual’s situation. I don’t think a guy who is coming out of a situation like that needs to be taken advantage of.”
“That should not be a representation of our fans and what we stand as a cricketing nation, a sporting nation. “We need to all take responsibility towards that. Intimidate the opposition, definitely try and have an upper hand but in a matter that is not targeting someone emotionally. “That is not acceptable at any level and people should be wary of that.”
Sharing the video of the same, ICC wrote:
“A lovely moment in a special year of cricket.
