The recently-concluded three-match T20i series between India and Sri Lanka turned out to be a close contest. However, the close contest was among both the openers of the Indian cricket team — KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan.

Well, Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian opener has been receiving a lot of criticism lately as he was struggling with the strike rate. After he injured his thumb during his stunning century knock against Australia in the World Cup. Following the injury, Dhawan was dropped from the squad and was replaced by KL Rahul.

KL Rahul made most of Shikhar Dhawan’s absence from the game and scored two fifties in the T20I series and a century in the subsequent ODI series. He has been in a stunning form lately and has impressed one and all with his consistent and stunning performances.

The performances of both the cricketers have led to a full-fledge debate not just between the fans but between the cricket fraternity as well. Many former cricketers including the likes of Gautam Gambhir and K Srikanth said that India should look beyond Dhawan and consider KL Rahul for the opening duties.

Virat Kohli Broke His Silence On ‘Rahul vs Dhawan’ Debate

Now, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper has finally broken his silence on the ongoing debate between the two openers and has given his take on the same. Talking about the same, he said:

“All three openers are pretty strong players, and it’s great to have players playing well in the team. It gives you options. But I think people need to stop pitting players against each other. It’s all about a team game. I don’t endorse this idea of putting people in the team against each other,”

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli led Indian cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 78 runs sealing the series by 2-0. Talking about their win against Sri Lanka’s cricket team. He said:

“We have started on the right track, chasing (in) one game and setting one game. Two very clinical performances, so I am very happy. Just the confidence of getting that 200 mark every now and then will put us in a good stead,”
