A lot has already been said and heard about the four-day Test, which is proposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Well, the ICC wants to try out the four-day Test matches from 2023-2030 in order to get more free days for the shorter formats of the game.

The idea has been getting widespread opposition from cricketers round the world. A number of leading test cricketers including the likes of Virat Kohli, Ben Stokes, and Tim Paine have openly criticized the four-day Test.

The Indian star Rohit Sharma has also given his opinion on the four-day-Test match and he has echoed the same sentiments. Rohit Sharma, who was recently promoted as the Test opener, gave a hilarious reply when asked about the four-day tests. He feels that a four-day match is not a Test match but a first-class test. He said:

“If it is a four-day, it is not a Test match. Four-day means a first-class match. It is as simple as that,”

Currently, Rohit Sharma is rested for the ongoing T20I series between India and Sri Lanka. He will be seen back in action when the Indian cricket team will lock horns with Australian cricketers.

Earlier Virat Kohli also gave his take on the four-day test. Opposing the idea, Virat Kohli said that he doesn’t endorse the idea of the four-day test as it won’t be fair to the longest format of the game. He said:

“Four-day Tests? Look, I’m not a fan of [it],” Kohli said last week. “I think the intent will not be right then because then you will speak of three-day Tests, where do you end? Then you speak of Test cricket disappearing. I don’t endorse that at all.”

He added:

“I don’t think that’s fair to the purest format of the game – how cricket started initially and five-day Test matches was the highest of tests you can have at the international level. According to me, it shouldn’t be altered.”
