IND vs NZ: Ishan Kishan Trolled Tom Latham Like A Boss

Shubman Gill’s double century, and some good, calm, collective effort from the Indian bowlers, helped Rohit Sharma’s side take a 1-0 series lead in the 3-ODI series against Hyderabad following their 12-run victory.

Gill clattered his third ODI ton – and two consecutive ones – and went on to convert it into a double century, becoming the fifth Indian- after Tendulkar, Sehwag, Rohit, and Kishan – to cross the 200-run milestone in ODIs. He also became the fastest Indian (in terms of innings) to reach 1000 ODI runs, doing it in 19 innings only, breaking Virat Kohli’s record.

While Gill plundered a double hundred, none of the other batters could score even a fifty as India ended with 349 on the board. India overcame the scare given by Michael Bracewell, who smashed 140 off 78 balls to drag the game till the last over. But a pinpoint yorker from Shardul Thakur eked out a slender victory for the hosts.

Tom Latham was criticised by Indian fans

During the match, there was a controversial incident that resulted in Hardik Pandya’s dismissal. Pandya missed a ball from seamer Daryl Mitchell and wicket-keeper Tom Latham, who was up close at the stumps, went up with a stumping appeal. However, Pandya was given out bowled by the third umpire, even though it can be clearly seen that there was a considerable gap between the ball and the bail which fell after the ball had passed the stumps and had thudded into Latham’s glove. It is likely that it was Latham’s gloves that had dropped the bail.

But the TV umpire K Ananthapadmanabhan ruled Pandya bowled. Even commentator Ravi Shastri was puzzled by this decision from the third umpire and Shastri was heard on air saying “it looked as if the ball was at least an inch, inch-and-a-half above the stumps. Ball clearly looks to be above the bail”.

Later in New Zealand’s innings, when Tom Latham was batting, the Indian wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan did a cheeky thing by removing the bail himself and appealing. The on-field umpire even consulted the third umpire this time too. Fans had a good laugh at Kishan’s antics as the 24-year-old keeper trolled Latham for the earlier incident.

Here are some of the fans’ reactions to Ishan Kishan’s cheeky antics:

On the air, Sunil Gavaskar wasn’t amused by Ishan Kishan, but the fans had a good laugh at it.
