4 Cricketers Who Have Played In Most ICC Cricket World Cup Finals

After Ben Stokes helped England win the T20 World Cup 2022 final against Pakistan at the MCG last year, many even hailed Stokes, who was also the Man of the Match in the epic 2019 World Cup final at Lord’s vs New Zealand, as the most clutch player the game has ever seen.

Whether it is Tests, or ODIs, of T20I, Stokes has stood up time and again for his country on the biggest of the arenas with the highest of the stakes. So that tag of the the man with the biggest b**ls in the game is there for reason, and quite justified.

This appearance in the T20 WC 2022 final added Ben Stokes to the list of elite cricketers who have appeared in 3 men’s World Cup finals.

However, this is not a record for Stokes to hold at the moment. No, Ben Stokes is not the player with most appearances in men’s World Cup finals (ODI or T20I).

Which players have appeared in most World Cup finals (men’s)?

The Sri Lankan quartet of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga, and Kumar Sangakkara have appeared in 5 men’s World Cup finals – all 4 of them played in the 50-over finals of 2007 and 2011, and in the T20I WC finals in 2009, 2012 and 2014.

After losing 4 straight finals, Sri Lanka, and this bunch of legendary players, finally got their hands on a World Cup when in the 2014 T20 World Cup final, Sri Lanka defeated India.

What is the record among women’s cricketers?

Well, with no surprise it is the Australian trio of wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy, batsman and captain Meg Lanning, and the superstar all-rounder Ellyse Perry – all three of them have featured in a world-record 7 ICC cricket world cup finals. Yes, SEVEN!

Alyssa Healy has appeared in six in T20 WCs (between 2010 and 2021), to go with the 2022 50-over World Cup. Lanning and Perry have both played in two 50-over and 5 T20 World Cup finals.
