India cleaned up the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series with a massive victory in Nagpur – by an innings and 132 runs – as Australia went down inside three days.
The comeback man Ravindra Jadeja bagged the Player of the Match award for his all-round brilliance throughout the game. Playing for India after a long gap of 5 months, the southpaw took a five-wicket haul in Australia’s first innings, then scored 70(185) in India’s first innings, before he added two more wickets in Australia’s second innings.
Rohit Sharma hit his 9th Test century – and his first Test ton against Australia – while R Ashwin bagged another five-fer – his 31st in Test cricket and 6th against Australia – in the second innings.

Hilarious: Rohit Sharma funnily trolls the cameraman

With India having the dominant hand in the game, Rohit Sharma was in his jolly mood. During one of the DRS decision process in Australia’s second innings, as the players, umpires, and fans waited for the ground technology crew to put up the hawkeye on the giant screen at the VCA Stadium to show to everyone, the cameraman panned straight on Rohit’s face.
Miffed by this, as everyone waited patiently for the hawkeye to be shown on the big screen, India skipper Rohit Sharma annoyingly shouted to show the review and not his face.
Rohit’s reaction, his shout in typical Bombay style, had even Suryakumar Yadav laughing.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit said he was very happy with his own batting performance as India took a 1-0 lead in the 4-Test series.
Talking about his century, Sharma said: “Very important at the start of the series. Happy that I could put the performance for the team. The last few years, the kind of pitches we are playing in India, you need to have application and some sort of plan to score runs. I’ve grown up playing a lot in Mumbai on surfaces that turns a lot. You need to be slightly unorthodox as well, use your feet. Need to put pressure on bowlers as well by doing something different. And that different could be whatever suits you – using your feet, sweeping, reverse-sweeping.”
