Rohit Sharma, captain of the Mumbai Indians, may choose to sit out a few Indian Premier League games this season in order to better manage his workload. In those games, Suryakumar Yadav will take over as captain of the team.

The final of the World Test Championship will take place at The Oval in London a week after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and India will host the 50-over World Cup in October and November of this year. India’s international schedule is extremely full. Even though Rohit has a checkered past when it comes to injuries, he will be eager to lead India in both of those arenas. Even though he will continue to travel with the club and will be coaching Surya from the bench when he is not playing, it is our understanding at The Indian Express that he will likely pick and choose which IPL games he will participate during this season.

After the most recent one-day international series against Australia, Rohit had emphasised that it was the players’ responsibility to maintain themselves healthy for national duty while still participating in the Indian Premier League for their respective teams.

“It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some indications to the teams, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchises. And more importantly, it’s up to the players. They are all adults; they have to look after their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games. I doubt if that will happen, but,” Rohit had said.
