Pat Cummins, an Australian all-rounder who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders, became the newest player in IPL history to reach 50 in the shortest time. He has a half-century in a blazing 14 balls, and he is seated next to KL Rahul.
IPL Fastest 50
1) Pat Cummins – 14 balls vs Mumbai Indians, MCA, Pune (2022)
Before another batsman broke KL Rahul’s mark, it took the Indian Premier League four hard years. Yet it did so in the most dramatic of ways, when five-time Indian Premier League champion Mumbai Indians were sent to the stands by Australian all-rounder Australian Skipper.
In the 14th over, Pat entered the batting order as KKR struggled to reach their 162 run target at 101-5. Moreover, Cummins was anticipated to exhibit signs of jitters as this was his debut game in the Indian Premier League 2022, while Venkatesh Iyer stood firm at one end. The Australian, though, scored four boundaries and six sixes to help KKR win the game by the 16th over.
2) KL Rahul – 14 balls vs Delhi Capitals, Mohali (2018)
LSG Skipper has been playing well in the Indian Premier League over the past few seasons, establishing himself as one of the top ball strikers in the league. LSG Skipper scored a half-century against Delhi Capitals in just 14 balls in April 2018 while playing for Punjab Kings. It is still the fastest half-century in Indian League history. Given that LSG Skipper frequently appears to be a more traditional batsman rather than a marauder like Chris Gayle, it may come as a surprise that he owns the record for the Indian Premier League’s fastest 50. Rahul, though, was irrepressible that day. Rahul began in fifth gear and never let up as he pursued Delhi’s modest 167-point goal. LSG Skipper delivered one of the most exceptional knocks Mohali has ever witnessed, including six fours and four sixes.
3) Yusuf Pathan – 15 balls vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata (2014)
Destructive Pathan, a powerful ball batter, stole the show during Rajasthan Royals’ victory in the inaugural Indian Premier League season. In India at the time, there weren’t many power hitters, so Yusuf quickly became well-known for his aggressive shot-making. Soon after, he was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in the auctions, where Yusuf carried on with his carefree ways. In 2014, he brought down the Eden Gardens roof during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hyderabad were limited to 160/7 in their 20 overs when batting first.
Hyderabad, on the other hand, had talented bowlers in their ranks, and the Eden surface was deceiving. To Yusuf, none of that mattered. The aggressive right-hander, who then held the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history with a half-century in just 15 balls, completely destroyed the SRH bowlers. While Yusuf concluded with 72 off just 22 balls and his innings was peppered with five fours and seven maximums, not a single SRH bowler was spared. The highest quality hitting allowed KKR to chase down the 161-run mark in just 14.2 overs.
4) Sunil Narine – 15 balls vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Bengaluru (2017)
Long hits from West Indian Turner are not frequently recognised. He can certainly hit a long ball, but it usually only comes at the end of innings and for a brief period of time. However in 2017, the Kolkata Knight Riders took a chance on Narine and started using him as the opening batsman. In Indian Premier League 2017 Match 46 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Narine demonstrated supremely brutish striking. KKR was attempting to reach a 159-run mark.
KKR Turner smashed the RCB to all corners with a half-century off 15 balls, making even the pursuit look easy. On the list of the 50 fastest Indian League players, this is third. He eventually scored 54 off 17 balls, with 6 fours and 4 sixes in his innings. Even Chris Lynn at the other end was reduced to a spectator due to his tremendous hitting. RCB had already lost the game before they realised what had hit them.
5) Suresh Raina – 16 balls vs Punjab Kings, Mumbai (2014)
One of the best batsmen the Indian Premier League has ever seen is Suresh Raina. Before Virat Kohli passed him, he had the league’s highest run total for the longest time. the centre of the Chennai Super Kings’ batting lineup and typically the middle order’s drafter. However, Raina displayed a form that few had ever seen before when playing Punjab Kings in 2014. When batting first, Punjab Kings amassed 226/6, powered by Virender Sehwag’s brilliant 122.
There has never been a 227-run goal in Indian Premier League history, but Raina had other plans. He began middling the ball right away, and in just 16 balls, he reached his half-century, one of the Indian Premier League’s fastest half-centuries ever. Raina scored 87 off just 25 balls, hitting 12 fours and 6 sixes during his innings. It appeared that Raina would have brought his side home had it not been for an unnecessary runout. The score read: CSK defeated by 24 runs. Several people consider Raina’s innings to be among the best the league has ever seen.
6) Ishan Kishan – 16 balls vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Abu Dhabi (2021)
After a strong performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021, Mumbai Indians’ Ishan Kishan cemented his place among the top five players on this list. The fifth-fastest 50 in Indian Premier League history was reached by him in just 16 balls.
7) Chris Gayle – 17 balls vs Pune Warriors India, Bengaluru (2013)
In the Indian Premier League, 8 batsmen—specifically—have reached 50 runs in 17 balls or fewer. But, we choose Chris Gayle’s 50 as the best of the nine simply because of the amount of attention it produced. Gayle was in pure beast mode throughout the 2013 Indian Premier League. He went above and beyond against Pune Warriors India on this specific day. Gayle, who batted first, took the Pune attack by the scruff of the neck and pounded them into every nook and cranny of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He needed 17 balls to reach his half-century, but he wasn’t done yet. He eventually blasted the fastest T20 century, a mark that has stood the test of time, and concluded with 175*, a mark that sets a new T20 record for the greatest score in the game. Over the course of the knock, he hit 13 fours and 17 sixes.
Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard (twice), Adam Gilchrist, Chris Morris, Nicholas Pooran, Ishan Kishan, and Sunil Narine are other batters who have reached fifty runs off 17 balls.
