One-third of the IPL 2023 is done and dusted. It has been an entertaining tournament so far with plenty of last-over finishes and most of the matches being high-scoring ones.
Despite the Indian Premier League 2023 tournament seeing big runs being scored so far because of the fresh nature of the pitches and small boundaries in a few grounds, there have been a few players who have been rather disappointing with the bat in hand.
Here are the 3 big name batters who have been a flop so far in IPL 2023:
Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal is surprisingly having a tough time in the colors of a new IPL franchise. Moving out from Punjab Kings, Mayank Agarwal was snapped by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 8.25 crore in the Indian Premier League 2023 mini-auction. However, the opener hasn’t lived up to the billing yet.
In 4 innings so far for SRH, Mayank Agarwal has managed scores of 27 (23), 8(7), 21 (20), and 9 (13) – 65 runs at an average of 16 and strike rate of 103. Agarwal is too good a batsman than what these number speak, and SRH would be hoping that the senior opener finds his form back.
Dinesh Karthik
RCB’s batting apart from their top-order trio of Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Maxwell has been misfiring in the tournament so far. One of those out-of-touch batters is Dinesh Karthik.
While Karthik had a bumper IPL last year – where he scored runs at a strike rate of 183 and made it back into Team India – the veteran player has had a torrid run yet: 4 innings, scores of 0, 9, 1*, and 0. Agreed that the finishing role is tough, but in three of these innings, Karthik has come in early enough to make a substantial score but failed in doing so.
Prithvi Shaw
It has been a shocker of a tournament for Prithvi Shaw so far. Coming on the back of some off-field controversy, Shaw needed to put it behind and find runs to be back in contention for the Indian team. However, it’s been a downhill for the young Delhi Capitals opener so far.
In his first 5 innings of Indian Premier League 2023, Shaw has a horrible average of only 6! He’s been dismissed twice for a duck and a highest score of 15. Shaw needs to turn things around, for himself and for Capitals, who have lost their first 5 matches.
